Can you believe we're starting 2nd Grade together?
And so it begins, a week of firsts! Our first nature walk through the Winter Gardens to find Dori the dinosaur, a science scavenger hunt to look for solids, liquids and gases, and finally.... making "cheese" in the new outdoor restaurant!

Week 23
Our new friend has quickly learned the fine art of "mulch soup" making out on the playground! The middle picture demonstrates the muscle that he is using to carry this tire on his own... future Mr. Ironman! I had a parent come into the classroom and was happy to see these wet, drippy jackets laid out to dry after our run in the rain! As messy as the room gets, I secretly like it too! That's what I have "mop helpers" for after-all!
Week 22
We had a beautiful, "unexpected" day spent on the soccer fields. Children were able to relax in the hammock and climb the trees while I took on a soccer match of Max VS. the Girls!

Buddy reading with our 4th grade friends
Week 15
Preparing for our Winter Spiral Celebration with Ms. Sanders reading the story about giving our gifts to the world, imagining this year's spiral using oil pastels and making salt dough advent count down spirals...
Week 14
Prepping for Stone Soup... green beans, carrots, onions, potatoes, squash, zucchini, pasta and baked cinnamon apples! We could have made soup for the entire school as these children just wanted to cut veggies all day long!
Week 13
Gardening days while the weather is still warm and sunny.
Week 12
First field trip to the JCA to see The First Thanksgiving. What an amazing production! The characters interacted with the audience the whole time. As you can see, two of our friends were selected to participate up on stage which they in return received a standing applause.

Week 7
Wet felting with Mrs. Kessler! You can see the end result at this year's Fall Festival on October 24th!

Week 2
Welcome to the Grades! Seaside has it's first class of first graders crossing over. Roses are recognized all around the world as markers of significant moments. They are the perfect gift of complexity, beauty, and ready to open to the world.
Here we go.... Week 1
What an AMAZING first week of FIRST GRADE with my first group of SEASIDERS! We begun our week right away with learning how to hold/use our recorders. We rolled the rug out of the way and dipped right into our water color activity and then stepped outside to hand wash our paint boards. I don't know who had more fun this week, me or the kids!
Ready to begin a fresh new year of memories!
Week 40
Running laps, earning medals, relay games, yoga, zumba and watermelon were all a part of our fitness day.
Week 39
What a great day at the zoo. We could not have chosen a more perfect day.
Week 38
I love seeing my children lost in their yoga meditations.
Week 37
What a harvest we had! Carrots, snow peas, parsley, strawberries, radish.... The children were delighted by their farming skills so we celebrated with a veggie party!
Week 36
Good Bye Dear Friend!
Week 35
May Day Festival was such a beautiful day. Thank you to all who attended! A huge thank you to all of the "Loved Ones" and Grandparents that helped to make our gorgeous floral head wreaths. Your time in the classroom will be well remembered by the children.
Week 34
Woodworking with Mr. Pete was such a fun experience. The children created signs to hang in the woodshop shed by pounding nails into the wood that spelled the tool name.
Week 33
In between all the fun of decorating birdhouses for Earth Day and practicing for our May Day Festival we had time for a little "spring cleaning!"
Week 32
"What a COINCIDENCE! We have the same shirt.". The girls won the teeter totter challenge against the boys. The last picture was taken just moments before their rope swing snapped and they came tumbling down! The girls were laughing so hard.
Week 31
It's YOGA time again! Look how peaceful they look. (Sorry, couldn't make Ethan's picture fit right but I just had to post it!!)
Week 30
Thank you third graders for hiding eggs for us. We always imagine finding "dinosaur" eggs in the woods! A big thank you to Mrs. Palmer for baking bunnies with us this week. It was not an easy task to snip the bunny ears! Look at my boys...They are reading together during their free play. This is about the 3rd time they have read Green and Eggs and Ham together!! Happy moment!
Week 29
Rain, rain, go away, these little children want to play! A new obstacle course was set up by our very own Ethan! Bailee has been busy baking cakes for everyone. Now that soccer season has started we have a few budding coaches in the classroom. Unfortunately, there are not enough players when you have 18 coaches who want to instruct from up on the podium!
Week 28
These children are amazing at what they are capable of doing in one day. A special thank you to the mom who made 18 boards for us and then staying to get the project under way. They turned out beautiful and I naturally want to keep all 18 for myself! :)
Week 27
A culminating activity for Eric Carle's Pancake, Pancakes! What a fun morning of measuring, mixing and baking!
Week 26
A nature walk with Elijah's parents proved to be rewarding. Mom uncovered some bones!
Week 25
Rainbow Birthday Celebrations for both Bailee and Ariana. Addyson's daddy joined us for our nature walk and a tour of the farm garden.
Week 24
Bread with Mrs. Kiraly was a "heart warming" experience. Thank you for taking the time to come and bake with the children. They were most impressed with her "cat" shaped bread! We also did some hand stitching with the help of a few moms.
Week 23
One of our wet days was spent watercoloring our story of The Lazy Gnome. The other pictures are what we have been practicing in our classroom and that is TEAMWORK! Lucy and Liam worked on the under the sea puzzle and then took it one step further with adding the shells that Liam brought in for the 100th day of school. A team of 6 worked together to create a design with their collective sticks. Happiness is watching your class build on their teamwork skills without you!
Week 22
Ah, the sun is back and we can go on another adventure together. Look at the team work in the last picture to pull Elijah out of the hot lava!
Week 21
Thank you, thank you, to our supportive parents who fundraised for the teachers to attend this National Alliance Conference in California. These are just a couple of the many pictures that I accumulated from our visit to Golden Valley Charter School in Sacramento.
Week 20
Ellie and her mom brought treats for all the teachers before their big trip to San Francisco and reminded us to "Keep Calm!" The second picture is evidence that a doughnut fairy does in fact exist. :) And lastly...Goodbye Miss Heather, we so enjoyed our yoga time with you!
Week 19
Gage and Rylan are making soup for everyone in the newly designed "pit." Ruby brings her new guinea pig to school to meet Charlie. The last picture is full of our treasures from our nature walk by the Winter Spiral.
Week 18
Ms Papke fell behind on updating the weekly pictures! The first is from our St. Nicholas celebration when the children left their boots out to be filled! The other two pictures are some of our crafts we did the last week of school. We made Christmas bird feeders with Mrs. Sloan one morning. Another day we made these cute little Christmas gnomes as a surprise for our parents.
Week 17
We began our Celebrations Around the World this week by making beautiful elephants from India and designing Rangoli artwork. We decorated the classroom with many frosty snowflakes.
Week 16
Building gnome castles, having fun with our college student and hiking through the woods is what we did this week.
Week 15
We are busy prepping for our Stone Soup by slicing potatoes, mushrooms and carrots. We also washed and snapped a full bag of fresh green beans. Cooking in Kindergarten is FUN!
Week 14
I just love the outdoor time with my kids. The first picture just looks so magical as she is walking into the sunlight. The air was crisp and cool on this beautiful afternoon. It was so magical in fact, that a ladybug landed on her as she came out of the woods. And the last picture, just look at them! They're climbing on stumps and having their own magical journey (with swords in hand!)
Week 13
New toys to play with in the room.
Week 12
Beautiful day to tromp through the woods while singing, "This Little Light of Mine...."
(Out of the 36 pictures I have posted on this page...only 6 were taken indoors! It is clear to see that we have our best learning moments OUTSIDE in the fresh air and sunshine!)
