We combined 100th day celebrations with math and measurement today. We had a Solo cup challenge on who could think of the best "strategy" (there's our vocabulary word!!!) Children were divided several times into different groups for team building and cooperation. They were excited to reach 36 inches as the first challenge. By the end they figured out how to turn the cups, who was tallest to stack, who had steady hands etc.... Our winning challenge reached 95 inches! We were obviously going for the gold with 100 inches but we ran into the ceiling! There was a lot of counting going on today by 1's, 5's, 10's. A pack of 50 cups + another pack of 50 = how many Solo cups?
All of this took place today as well... sewing special Valentines, ordering shells longest to shortest and my favorite.... watching the kids roll these huge tractor wheels around the fence of the playground. This was another great example of team work, just listening to them first of all figure out how to lift these enormous tires up! Only a few children braved the storm and came outside with me. The others opted to stay inside to stay toasty warm. I did my best for making them keep their raincoat goodies on!
Hang on, our day isn't over yet!!!! You can see girls having a "sleepover," a magnificent building structure designed by several children and then finally...a beautiful Valentine explosion on my desk! As of today I am officially out of Valentine stickers!
This of course is ONLY the afternoon part of our day. Much more learning and fun went on in the morning. These were just the highlights! I think I am ready for 100 minutes of alone time on the couch with my blanket, book and hot chocolate! Until tomorrow.......
